Objectives 1 (34 Kb, pdf)

Main objectives:

• A first objective is to generate a new body of data on the personal life of unemployed young people, their perception of their situation, their life projects, their identity development, the intensity and quality of their social relations, their political participation, and their attitudes toward the political institutions and the society at large, thus allowing for cross-sectional (across social groups) and cross-national (France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Sweden, and Switzerland) comparative analyses of the social and political exclusion of unemployed youth.

• A second objective is to advance theory and extend knowledge on the social and political exclusion of young unemployed. The proposed research aims to investigate the relationships between the lack or loss of job and the social and political exclusion of those young citizens who are affected by it. This will be achieved by developing a more integrated conceptual approach that systematically relates three dimensions of the field that have previously remained distinct and isolated fields of research: (1) the institutional approaches toward youth unemployment (i.e. public policies) and their impact on social integration of young people; (2) the individual situation and experience of unemployment; (3) the political integration, participation and trust of unemployed youth.
