Work package 5

EU-level analysis

This workpackage aims to study the impact of EU policies and practices towards unemployment (specifically, youth unemployment). This analysis will build on the previously defined workpackages.

First, we will need to reframe our institutional analysis in European terms by uncovering processes and potentials of a trans-European coordination of policy-measures devoted to the social and political integration of young unemployed. Our aim is to assess this policy-learning and coordination.

Second, national case studies are geared to unveil the potential role of civil society organizations in the social and political integration of the young unemployed. Given the fact that the EU institutions actively endorse civil society organizations as prominent actors in this area, we will need to assess the actual performance and the possible potentials of civil society as an arena and actor of social and political integration.

Third, our individual surveys will also address the young people knowledge about and acceptance of EU and their hopes and fears of European integration. These findings need to be reflected from a European perspective as well, because they might have implications for the general objectives and strategies formulated in European documents and policy-strategies.
